Bi Foundation transforms communities in Quiché with the construction of concrete floors
Guatemala, October 10, 2024. In an effort to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable communities in Guatemala, Fundación Bi with the support of BreakThrough Action, carried out the construction of 143 concrete floors in homes with dirt floors, benefiting more than 1,000 people in 7 communities of Quiché with the program "HogaRES united for resilient and healthy homes".
The communities where this program was developed were: Xesic I, Xesic II, Xesic IV, Xatinap IV, Choacaman, Cucabaj I and La Estancia.
This action has been a crucial step in the transformation of homes that previously had dirt floors, generating a significant impact on the health and well-being of families.
"Through the construction of these concrete floors, we are providing families with an environment where their children can grow up healthier and safer," explained Melanie Calderon, Bi Foundation representative.
This achievement has been possible thanks to the close collaboration between Fundación Bi and BreakThrough Action, who have worked directly with the families of Quiché on nutrition, hygiene and family savings.
The Bi Foundation's purpose is to promote sustainable prosperity in the communities and the HogaRES program is an example of how this objective can become a reality.
About the HogaRES program
Its objective is to replace dirt floors with concrete floors because they represent a sanitary risk. It provides a safer and healthier space, improving hygiene conditions and providing an environment conducive to the development of children. Banco Industrial has currently carried out this program in Quetzaltenango with the construction of 105 concrete floors, in Quiché with 145 floors, and will soon take the program to more communities.
