The Bi Foundation and the Municipality of Esquipulas celebrate the renovation of 170 homes

Esquipulas, Chiquimula, March 20, 2026. Fundación Bi, in collaboration with the authorities of the Municipality of Esquipulas, concluded the HogaRES program, replacing dirt floors with concrete floors in the communities of Los Pericos, El Mojón, and El Zarzalito. Thanks to this initiative, 170 families now have a more hygienic and dignified living environment in their homes.

The significance of this change lies in its direct impact on residents' health. Dirt floors are a major factor contributing to the spread of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases.

Replacing them with concrete eliminates sources of infection and parasites, creating a healthy environment that is particularly conducive to children’s overall development and improves the quality of life for adults.

Fundación Bi would like to thank each of the beneficiary families for opening the doors of their homes and placing their trust in the organization to carry out this transformation. As an additional benefit to promote preventive health, each family was given an Ecofiltro, thereby ensuring access to purified water in their homes.

This achievement is the result of a collective effort. The strategic partnership with the Municipality of Esquipulas—led by Mayor Carlos Portillo and his wife Claudia Paredes through the municipality’s social services division—has been essential in identifying and addressing the needs of these three communities, as has the support of partner organizations such as Cementos Progreso, UN Women, Plan Trifinio, and Habitat for Humanity.

The HogaRES initiative is a nationwide project aimed at developing a sustainable model to eliminate dirt floors throughout Guatemala.

Through these initiatives, Fundación Bi fulfills its mission of supporting community development, guided by the belief that a concrete floor is the foundation for a more prosperous, safe, and healthy future for everyone.
