Education has the power to change the course of a life. When a child gains access to tools, knowledge, and opportunities, they also gain the chance to discover their talents, develop their skills, and build a different future. With this vision in mind, Fundación Bi and the Latin American Business Council (CEAL) launched the “One Computer Per Child – Conecta Aprende” Educational Program, an initiative that aims to bring technology and innovation to hundreds of Guatemalan students.

This significant initiative will benefit 500 children at three schools across the country, who will now have access to technological resources that will enhance their learning and expand their opportunities for development.

More than just providing computers, the program represents a commitment to the potential of each student and to the future of the communities where they live.

Digital Education in Guatemala to Bridge Gaps and Create Opportunities

Today, access to technology has become an essential tool for learning. However, many communities still face challenges related to access to digital resources and educational opportunities.

For this reason, the Conecta Aprende program aims to transform classrooms into spaces for innovation by providing technological equipment and ongoing support to students and teachers.

The schools that will benefit are:

  • El Carrizal Official Coeducational Rural School, Puerto San José, Escuintla, with 146 computers
  • Fe y Alegría Educational Center No. 1, Guatemala City, with 240 computers
  • Santa Ana Official Coeducational Rural School, La Antigua Guatemala, with 114 computers

This initiative arises in a context in which international organizations have highlighted significant challenges in the learning of children and young people in Latin America, especially in the wake of the pandemic.

Given this reality, combining technology with educational support presents an opportunity to strengthen essential skills for the future.

A computer can be the beginning of a new story

Behind every computer that is donated is a student with dreams, goals, and enormous potential waiting to be discovered.

For many children, having access to a technological tool means the opportunity to explore new ways of learning, reinforce their knowledge, and develop skills that will be valuable throughout their lives.

More than just technology—an opportunity for growth

The Conecta Aprende model is based on a comprehensive approach that seeks to bring about sustainable and measurable changes in communities.

Its main components include:

  • One computer per student
  • Training and Pedagogical Support for Teachers
  • Technological Sustainability
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation

The goal is for students to strengthen skills related to:

  • Reading and Comprehension
  • Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Digital Tools
  • Skills That Foster Personal Growth

Imagine a child who, for the first time, has access to a computer to research, learn, and discover new possibilities. Or a teacher who has tools that enrich their classes and enhance their students’ educational experience.

These are opportunities that can make a significant difference in the academic and personal development of an entire generation.

When Different Sectors Come Together for Education

Major changes usually occur when several organizations work toward a common goal.

For this first initiative in Guatemala, Fundación Bi and CEAL provided the funding to develop the program and purchase the technological equipment, while Fundación Zamora Terán will be responsible for its implementation.

This partnership demonstrates that collaboration can be a powerful tool for creating social impact and building sustainable opportunities.

Education does not only transform those who learn. It also strengthens families, empowers communities, and creates new opportunities for the country's growth.

Every child who develops digital skills today will be better prepared to face the challenges of tomorrow. Every teacher who receives support will have more tools to inspire their students. And every community that gains access to new educational opportunities strengthens its prospects for development.

Fundación Bi continues to promote initiatives that bring knowledge, innovation, and opportunities to those who need them most. Because when we invest in education, we don’t just provide tools; we sow dreams, strengthen hope, and build pathways so that more children and young people can achieve the future they deserve.
